Le projet « Togo en quarantaine » était à Paris le 09 Septembre 2023

    

  Dans le cadre de la célébration de sa vingtième année d’existence, l’exposition itinérante de peinture : « Togo en quarantaine » était à Paris le 09 Septembre 2023.

Initié aux Etats-Unis en 2003 par l’Artiste peintre Pierre-Bernard Kouassi Kloussè (Pierbino),pour dénoncer les abus en matière des droits de l’homme au Togo sur la période allant de l’assassinat du Père de l’Indépendance Sylvanus Olympio en 1963 jusqu’à 2003 au moment du lancement du projet, « Togo en Quarantaine » est une exposition itinérante de peintures dont l’objectif premier était de montrer sous un nouveau jour les crimes commis par le régime militaro ethnique du feu dictateur Président Gnassingbé Eyadéma. Cette période macabre dans la vie du Togo en marche vers sa démocratie devait être illustrée par la reproduction en tableaux d’une quarantaine de photos et d’histoires représentant des Togolais ayant subi les exactions et brimades de toute nature de la part du régime au pouvoir. Les histoires montrant les violences militaires sur la population, les arrestations abusives, les tueries, etc. étaient donc reprises sous forme de tableaux afin d’immortaliser ses événements pour qu’ils ne soient pas ignorés des générations à venir.

Les crimes au Togo ne s’étant malheureusement pas arrêtés à cette première période de quarante années de l’histoire du Togo, et les violences sur la population ayant continué après le décès en 2005 du Président Eyadéma et l’arrivée au pouvoir par la force de son fils Faure Gnassingbé, l’Artiste s’est senti obligé de continuer grâce au projet à dénoncer la situation des droits de l’homme au Togo qui n’a pas cessé de se dégrader jusqu’à ce jour.

Après sa toute première présentation au public de Washington D.C au Western Presbyterian Church –NW en Mai 2003 au cours des trois jours de représentation de la pièce d’Ariel Dorfman: “Speak Truth to Power” organisé par le groupe 211 d’Amnesty International-USA au Capitol Hill, le projet « Togo en quarantaine » s’est retrouvé à Paris ce 09 Septembre 2023 pour célébrer ses vingt ans, en marge du « café politique » organisé à l’occasion de la dédicace au Titi Palacio du livre : « Togo ! La démocratie étouffée » de Sébastien NADOT. L’Artiste a donc profité de l’occasion pour montrer au public sa nouvelle série de peintures relatant la Marche du 19 Août organisée au Togo en 2017 par le Parti National Panafricain de Tikpi Atchadam qui réclamait plus de démocratie dans le pays ; cette marche qui fut réprimée dans le sang par le régime militaire de Faure Gnassingbé.

A Paris ce fut encore l’occasion de rappeler l’histoire des héros anonymes en lutte pour la libération du Togo et dont on oublie souvent de parler. On pouvait ainsi lire comme titres des tableaux : « La dette du sang », « Détresse bleue », « Rouge sommet » ou encore « Terminus ». Aujourd’hui, vingt années après son lancement, « Togo en quarantaine » est plus que jamais déterminé à montrer au monde entier la face lugubre de la dictature cinquantenaire qui continue de sévir au Togo et où le régime illégitime détient encore en prison plus d’une centaine de prisonniers politiques. Notons à la suite de l’élection présidentielle du 22 février 2020 que Faure Gnassingbé s’est encore frauduleusement et par la force arrogé le pouvoir, qu’il a ensuite chassé du pays le vrai gagnant des élections qu’est le Dr. Agbéyomé Messan Kodjo ainsi que le Père spirituel de la Nation Mgr. Fanoko Philipe Kpodzro un prélat de 94 ans, tout en continuant de lorgner vers un cinquième mandat.

Notons qu’après sa première présentation en 2003, « Togo en quarantaine » avait procédé au lancement officiel de ses tournées le 08 juin 2004 à Washington D.C au Vision théâtre sous le parrainage du groupe 211 d’Amnesty International, Capitol-Hill. L’exposition itinérante avait ainsi pu être présenté :

- à la VIème Convention du NACT (North American Convention for Togo) qui s’était tenu à Minneapolis (Minnesota) du 16 au 17 juillet 2004

- à l’Université de Maryland au cours de la Conférence Régionale d’Amnesty International- USA du 12 au 14 Novembre 2004

- à l’American University au Wechsler Théâtre au cours d’une projection de film sur la situation des droits de l’Homme en Birmanie par le groupe 211 d’Amnesty International de Capitol-Hill le 24 mars 2005

- à Silver Spring (Maryland) du 11 au 12 juin 2005 au cours des Etats- généraux de la Diaspora Togolaise aux Etats-Unis

- à l’Université de Montréal (Canada), sur invitation du CTC (Communauté Togolaise au Canada) le 18 juin 2005 au cours de la présentation du livre : « Le Togo, de l’esclavage au libéralisme mafieux », par l’Ethnologue Suisse Gilles Labarthe.

- dans plusieurs parcs ou rues de Washington D.C et Virginia aux Etats-Unis depuis 2005

Le projet Togo en quarantaine va donc continuer ses tournées à travers le monde et est ouvert à toutes les personnes ayant subi ou connu des histoires à raconter sur les abus en matière des droits de l’homme de la part du régime dictatorial du Togo et désireux de voir leur histoire racontée en peinture et exposé au public afin que nul n’ignore les crimes du gouvernement de fait qui continue de diriger par la force le Togo.

The "Togo in quarantine" project was in Paris on September 9, 2023

As part of celebrating its twentieth year of existence, the traveling painting exhibition: "Togo in quarantine" was in Paris on September 9, 2023.

Initiated in the United States in 2003 by the painter Pierre-Bernard Kouassi Kloussè (Pierbino) to denounce human rights abuses in Togo during the period from the assassination of the Father of Independence Sylvanus Olympio in 1963 until 2003 when the project was launched, "Togo in Quarantine" is a traveling exhibition of paintings whose primary objective was to show in a new light the crimes committed by the ethnic military regime of the late dictator President Gnassingbé Eyadéma. This dreadful period in the life of Togo on its march toward democracy was illustrated by the reproduction in tables of around forty photos and stories representing Togolese having suffered abuses and bullying of all kinds from the regime in power. Reports showing military violence against the population, abusive arrests, killings, etc., were reproduced in paintings to immortalize its events so that future generations would not ignore them.

The crimes in Togo, unfortunately, did not stop at this first period of forty years of Togo's history, and the violence against the population continued after the death in 2005 of President Eyadéma and the coming to power by force of his son Faure Gnassingbé, the Artist felt obliged to continue, thanks to the project, to denounce the human rights situation in Togo which has continued to deteriorate to this day.

After its very first presentation to the public of Washington D.C. at the Western Presbyterian Church -N.W. in May 2003 during the three days of representation of the play by Ariel Dorfman: "Speak Truth to Power" organized by the group 211 of Amnesty International- USA on Capitol Hill, the "Togo in Quarantine" project met in Paris on September 9, 2023, to celebrate its twentieth anniversary, on the sidelines of the "political café" organized on the occasion of the dedication of the book at the Titi Palacio: "Togo ! La démocratie étouffée" by Sébastien NADOT. The Artist, therefore, took the opportunity to show the public his new series of paintings recounting the August 19 March organized in Togo in 2017 by the Pan-African National Party of Tikpi Atchadam who demanded more democracy in the country; this march, which was bloodily repressed by the military regime of Faure Gnassingbé.

In Paris, it was once again an opportunity to recall the history of the anonymous heroes fighting for the liberation of Togo and of whom we often forget to talk. The titles of the paintings could thus be read: "The Blood Debt," "Blue Distress," "Red Top," or even "Terminus". Today, twenty years after its launch, "Togo in Quarantine" is more determined than ever to show the whole world the gloomy face of the fifty-year-old dictatorship which continues to rage in Togo and where the illegitimate regime still detains more than around a hundred political prisoners. Following the presidential election of February 22, 2020, Faure Gnassingbé again fraudulently and forcibly assumed power, which he then expelled from the country the real winner of the polls, Dr. Agbéyomé Messan. Kodjo, as well as the Spiritual Father of the Nation Mgr. Fanoko Philipe Kpodzro, a 94-year-old prelate, while continuing to eye a fifth term.

Note that after its first presentation in 2003, "Togo in Quarantine" officially launched its tours on June 8, 2004, in Washington D.C. at the Vision Theater under the sponsorship of the 211 group of Amnesty International, Capitol-Hill. The traveling exhibition was thus able to be presented:

- at the VIth NACT Convention (North American Convention for Togo), which was held in Minneapolis (Minnesota) from July 16 to 17, 2004

- at the University of Maryland during the Amnesty International-USA Regional Conference from November 12 to 14, 2004

- at American University at the Wechsler Theater during a film screening on the human rights situation in Burma by Amnesty International Group 211 on Capitol Hill on March 24, 2005

- in Silver Spring (Maryland) from June 11 to 12, 2005, during the States-General of the Togolese Diaspora in the United States

- at the University of Montreal (Canada), at the invitation of the CTC (Togolese Community in Canada) on June 18, 2005, during the presentation of the book: "Le Togo, de l'esclavage au libéralisme mafieux" by the Ethnologue Switzerland Gilles Labarthe.

- in several parks or streets in Washington D.C. and Virginia in the United States since 2005

The Togo in Quarantine project will, therefore, continue its tours around the world and is open to all people who have suffered or known stories to tell about human rights abuses by the dictatorial regime of Togo and wish to see their story told in painting and exhibited to the public so that no one is unaware of the crimes of the de facto government which continues to rule Togo by force.
